Understanding About Dichroic Glass Beads

Dichroic glass beads, also called fusion glass beads, are so beautiful, and add a special touch when incorporated into projects beads. They are not like other types of beads and add a special touch to your projects.

First of all, dichroic pronounced die-crow-ick. The process by which these beads were made was very expensive and complex, requiring, special high-tech equipment. These beads would cost more than other types of glass beads, but because of their unique beauty, they might be worth it for you.

The manufacturing process starts with glass beads as a base, which may be clear or colored glass material. The glass beads were taken to a very high temperature in a vacuum oven.

Metal oxides such as gold, chromium, titanium, magnesium and aluminum evaporate into the mist which is then deposited onto a substrate of glass beads in a vacuum chamber. Depending on the desired effect, many layers of fog evaporated metal can be applied to glass.

Because the exact manner in which the various metal vapor falling on a glass substrate rather unexpected, there is a natural variation in beads which of course adds to the uniqueness and value of them.
