In early Meiji era, Hokkaido was still a wild and barren uncivilized land for most Japanese. The Inadas, former samurai clan in Awaji, Shikoku, were ordered to immigrate to Hokkaido by the Meiji government. Shino and her daughter had to fight against many difficulties just to survive. The film boasts grand backdrop of Hokkaido and precise reproduction of the village in this era, and is directed by Isao Yukisada ("Crying Out for Love, in the Center of the World") and features Sayuri Yoshinaga as the main character.

The film is scheduled to be released theatrically in the U.S. in 2006.

The film is nominated in categories in 12 categories in Japan Academy Awards 2006.
