Combining the youth movie factors and a social issue, discrimination against
Korean Japanese, "We Shall Overcome Someday" hit the Japanese
movie industry and the market with a fresh taste of social-entertainment
film. The story background is similar to "West Side Story"; in
which Korean high school kids and Japanese high school gangs are hostile
to each other, and a Japanese boy fall in love with a sister of a Korean
member. On the course of their encounters, the boy finds out the problems
in the society and grows up.
The film is nominated in 4 categories in Japan Academy Awards 2006.
