Kamikaze Girls

Japanese Title: Shimotsuma Monogatari
Release Year in Japan: 2004

Director: Tetsuya Nakashima
Casts: Kyoko Fukada (Momoko), Anna Tsuchiya (Ichigo)

Another wacky manga-like (not based on manga, but on a novel) young-girls comedy, "Kamikaze Girls" is heart-warming and funny story of a strange friendship between Momoko (literally "peach child") and Ichigo (literally "strawberry"). Despite its overly sweet appearance of the DVD cover and their names, the humor is rather dry and caricaturistic with a great tempo, and demonstrates the girl's young dilemma towards their lifestyle and their future. Not only for young girls - adults can enjoy it too!

The film's leading actresses were both nominated in Japan Academy Awards in 2005.
