Started as a model during the high school senior year, Kyoka broke into
the public attention in 1989 when she appeared in a TV commercial. In 1990,
she moved into acting with a TV drama "Hotdog". During the next
year, NHK's morning drama "Kimi no Na wa", in which she played
the main character, pushed her into the stardum. In the movies, Kyoka was
nominated in the Best Actress category in Japan Academy in 1997 with "Rajio
no Jikan" and have played main roles in various movies since then.
In 2004, she played the wife of the explosively violent guy in "Blood
and Bones" and won her first Japan Academy Best Actress award.
