Born in 1966, Kyoko Koizumi started her singing career in 1981 when she
won the "Star Is Born" TV competition. After several TV dramas,
Koizumi appeared in the first movie "Jukkai no Mosquito" in 1983.
At the height of "KyonKyon" (her nickname) boom as the top idol,
she won the Best Actress Awards at Mainchi Concours with her lead role
in "Boku no Onna ni Te wo Dasuna" (literal translation: Don't
mess with my woman). In 1988's comedy musical "Kaito Ruby", starring
her and Hiroyuki Sanada, brought her several movie awards, and the theme song she sang became
also a big hit.
She married to actor Masatoshi Nagase ("The Hidden Blade") in
1995 and slowed down her work pace, but started to do the films actively
in the late 90's, and eventually divorced in 2004. Departing from her "cute
idol" era, her recent works are notably complex characters, such as
the serial killer in "Bayside Shakedown" and mysterious witch
in "Onmyoji". In 2005, she won Blue Ribbon Award with the role
of a depressed housewife in "Hanging Garden" . She is starring
in 2005 TIFF grand-prix winner "What the Snow Brings", scheduled
to open early summer 2006.
