Joe Odagiri was born in 1976, and studied acting for two years in California State University Fresno. He debuted in a stage act "DREAM OF PASSION" in 1999, and the next year, his popularity surged as the main character of super-hero TV series, "Masked Rider Kuga". He appeared in many TV dramas and movies since then, won Japan Academy Award Rookie of the Year in 2004 with "Azumi" and Best Supporting Actor in "Blood and Bones". In 2005, he has played main roles in popular films such as "Princess Racoon" (with Zhang Ziyi), "House of Himiko", and "SHINOBI", and is widely acknowledged as one of the top up-and-coming young actors, with not only the good look, but also a powerful personality and strong acting skills. In 2006, he visited all three of world's top film festivals with his leading role movies, "Sway" in Cannes, "Big River" (staged in the US and lines are all in English) in Berlin, and "Bug Master" in Venice. Among them, "Sway" is widely acknowledged as one of the best Japanese movies in 2006 and Odagiri's best work so far.
